We have collaborated with Human Rights and Science (HR&S)-RISE Zambia program to support mothers of young children severely impacted by the recent cholera outbreak. These women lost their small businesses due to measures taken to control cholera, leaving them vulnerable without basics such as sufficient food, soap, chlorine, or fuel for boiling drinking water.
Our project, ‘Thrive for WASH,’ aims to empower these women through education in financial literacy and basic business management skills. We offer them micro-business funding to revive their businesses, courtesy of HR&S. Additionally, we provide training in WASH practices, emphasizing point of use water treatment and effective waste management for disease prevention, and facilitate their access to safe water and sanitation. We also orient/train on alternative livelihoods and climate change resilient gardening to improve their nutrition and food security.
